Lift-and-ride adventures, remote singletrack trails, cyclist-friendly hotels – Tirol is the perfect place for mountain bikers keen to explore the Heart of the Alps on two wheels.
The same terrain which makes Tirol a haven for skiers and snowboarders in winter draws more and more mountain bikers to the region in summer. With around 6,000 kilometres of signposted mountainbike routes as well as 300 kilometres of singletrack trails, the Heart of the Alps is the perfect place for an unforgettable bike holiday. The mountains of Tirol, from the craggy peaks of the Arlberg Massif in the west to the famous Kitzbühel Alps in the east, from the Dolomites of Lienz in the south to the iconic Karwendel Mountains in the north, are one huge playground for riders of all abilities and fitness levels. Those with strong legs and plenty of time on their hands can take on the Bike Trail Tirol, a long-distance mountain bike route comprising 32 stages crossing the region from east to west. It is the longest multi-stage mountain bike ride in the Alps. Another long-distance adventure, albeit one where riders can rely on the help of ski lifts and cable cars, is the Tirol Mountain Bike Safari. It allows riders to complete 15,000 of the 32,000 vertical metres using mechanical assistance. Tirol is home to nine dedicated mountain bike regions offering special hotels, hire shops, repair workshops, etc.
